Toshiba to Launch First NFC Enabled SD Memory Card

Toshiba is going to give us such technology that we have not seem before. They are going to introduce new type of memory card. The memory card is SDHC card with integrated NFC functionality. The new memory card will be available in three different memory sizes 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, offering speed of 0.2 Mbps with a memory capacity of 256 bytes.

Toshiba claims that these are the first memory card in the world with NFC technology. Now, you don't have to take out the memory card out of your camera or other device and put into a PC to see what's inside it.

The technology is only compatible with NFC-capable Android Smartphones and require an app "memory card preview".

You can preview available storage space and up to 16 thumbnails of any photos in SD card by just hovering over the memory card.

Don't expect to be able to download or upload files through this. But NFC also doesn't offer enough bandwidth for any usable data transfer.

Toshiba has confirmed that three cards will go on sale from February but price is still unknown at this time.

BBM is coming to Android Wear

BlackBerry continues to try to get non-BlackBerry users hooked on BBM. BlackBerry announced that BBM will come to Android Smartwatches soon.

BBM for Android Smartwatches will allow users to receive alert on their Smartwatches. Users can read messages, accept BBM invites and even they can reply to messages via voice or from pre-defined messages.

So now you can keep your phone in pockets and read full messages and even respond them. It's not been confirmed exactly when BBM for Android Wear will come but in official blog post BlackBerry claims it's coming soon.

Mark Zuckerberg received threats from Pakistani extremist

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook has opened up about the threats he received from an extremist Pakistan who had threatened to have him sentenced to death after Facebook refused to ban content about Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.).

Mark revealed about threats just 2 days after attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris in which 12 people died.

On January 9, 2015, Mark wrote on his personal profile, "A few years ago, an extremist in Pakistan fought to have me sentenced to death because Facebook refused to ban content about Mohammed (P.B.U.H.) that offended him."

"As I reflect on yesterday's attack and my own experience with extremism, this is what we all need to reject -- a group of extremists trying to silence the voices and opinions of everyone else around the world." Mark wrote.

"I won't let that happen on Facebook. I'm committed to building a service where you can speak freely without fear of violence.", he assured.

"Facebook has always been a place where people across the world share their views and ideas. We follow the laws in each country, but we never let one country or group of people dictate what people can share across the world."

In response to comment he wrote, "It’s not against our policies to talk about Prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H). We did block the content in Pakistan where it was illegal, but we didn't block it in the rest of the world where it is legal."

He also offered condolence with the families of victims, "My thoughts are with the victims, their families, the people of France and the people all over the world who choose to share their views and ideas, even when that takes courage."

Windows 10's new browser 'Spartan' let's you search with your voice

Windows 10 is planning to introduce new browser named 'Spartan'. It is reported that it may not just a leaner, fresher and substitute for Internet Explorer. It could have some new features that other browsers don't have. 

Some sources claims that Microsoft voice-guided Cortana assistant that is still available for Windows Phone users, will be available in new browser 'Spartan' and the OS (Windows 10) too. Much like Chrome's "OK Google" feature, you can open new browser tab and ask Cortana to look up something whether it's a website or something else, reported. There is also talk of pen based annotations for websites that you can share with others through cloud (Microsoft's OneDrive).

It is expected to have the looks of a Firefox or Chrome in 'Spartan' and also with some wider range of extension apps. Microsoft is keeping Internet Explorer around for backwards compatibility, but this will apparently be the main browser.

Intel Has Launched Full Windows and Linux PC in a HDMI Dongle

There are number of portable devices that turns your television into "smart tv" but they are cost-effective. Now, Intel has launched a "Computer Stick" which is full of Winodws 8.1 PC on a portable USB Stick.

Revealed at CES 2015, the Intel Computer Stick is a Windows 8.1 computer in the slim body of an HDMI 1.4a dongle media streamer, like the ChromeCast and Amazon Fire TV Stick.

The Computer Stick comes with quad-core Atom Processor, 32GB Memory, 2GB RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. There is also Linux based version with half of the RAM. The Windows 8.1 stick will be available for $149 and the Linux stick for $89 respectively.

The left side of the stick has micro USB port to charge the device, a small power button and a full USB port for peripheral connectivity. 

While the Compute Stick’s lower-end specs likely won’t replace anyone’s main home or work computer, it’s an affordable price for sprucing up the living room television with desktop functionality.

The Intel Computer Stick will begin shipping this March. So be ready to turn your TV to a "Smart TV" in a couple of months.

Microsoft OneDrive for Windows Phone to Get Offline Access Feature

In the last few months, Microsoft has introduced a number of new features for OneDrive for Windows Phone but there is not offline access available for Windows Phone users although it's present in Desktop version. However, users who wish this feature on their Windows Phone too, will get this soon.

In response to a user on OneDrive UserVoice, Microsoft's Program Manager Casey Penk said the company "intend(s)" to bring this feature, but at the moment, they don't have any estimated time frame available.

He said,

We know offline access is important, and we intend to bring this feature to Windows Phone. We don’t have a specific timeline yet.

Flappy Bird makes comeback to Android Wear Devices

Addictive game Flappy Bird that became globally popular last year, is now available on Android Wear devices. It is the work of developer Corbin Davenport, and not of its original Vietnamese coder Nguyen Ha Dong.

Apple has issued a note to investors this week claiming that Apple has been working on a new 4-inch iPhone that could be launch in next year 2015.

LG will make tech for Mercedes-Benz's Self-driving Cars

LG has announced that it will develop the camera system for the semi-autonomous vehicles.
The German automaker will use LG’s Advanced Driving Assistance System technology in its next-generation of self-driving vehicles.
Basically it is a stereo camera system which works like the human eye to detect objects on the road ahead and spot potential dangers like pedestrians and cyclists. If any hazards are detected in front of the car that the driver hasn’t picked up, then the vehicle will brake autonomously.
The system also ensures the car stays within the correct lane and dims the headlights in the face of oncoming traffic. Rather than being completely independent like Google’s upcoming self-driving car, Mercedes-Benz’ car will be semi-autonomous so the driver will be able to transfer only some of the controls to the vehicle. LG’s biometric systems will even monitor eye movement and alertness, in order to protect against drivers falling asleep at the wheel. On top of the self-driving tech, LG will also provide the home entertainment and mobile technology systems.

Facebook Faces Lawsuit for Scanning Users Private Messages

Facebook is facing lawsuit over accusations that social media company scanned the content of users' private messages and sent to other users for advertising purpose.

The company dismissed the claim but provided less explanation. They said no laws were broken since the message scan were protected under an exception in the Electronic Communication Privacy Act.

"If the lawsuit succeed, affected users get as much as $10,000."

US district judge Phyllis Hamilton in Oakland, California, dismissed some state-law claims against the social media company but largely denied Facebook's bid to dismiss the lawsuit

Japanese Company buys Viber for $900 Million

TOKYO: Viber, the most commonly used Chat App for internet messaging and calls, has been bought by Japanese E-Commerce Giant, Rakuten Inc.

Operating with B2B2C E-commerce mode, Japanese giant intends to expand their products’ distribution worldwide, for which Viber will provide a distribution channel.

The official announcement of this acquisition was made in a news conference today, when Viber’s Founder and CEO Talmon Marco sold it for $900 million to Japanese billionaire Hiroshi Mikitani, Chairman and CEO of Rakuten Inc.

Rakuten Inc., which officially owns Viber now, has also in its plans to create a game platform on viber which will have 300 million users.

The owner of Rakuten believes that Viber will take his company to a high level because in future, E-commerce transactions will become much more communication based.

Rakuten offers services from financing to shopping to online video on its e-commerce platform, the largest in Japan.

Nokia's First Android Smartphone

Nokia is preparing to unveil its first Android phone later this month. The Wall Street Journal reports that Nokia will unveil its "Normandy" phone at Mobile World Congress later this month. Citing sources familiar with Nokia’s plans, the WSJ reiterates previous reports from The Verge that Nokia’s first Android phone will use a modified "forked" version of Google’s operating system. The effort is similar to Amazon’s use of Android for its Kindle range of tablets, and Nokia is expected to integrate Microsoft services onto the device with a special application store for some existing Android apps.

Nokia has scheduled a press event later this month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, hinting only at "meet us under the tree." The Finnish smartphone-maker also recently teased an upcoming Windows Phone announcement, but The Vergeunderstands Nokia will not focus heavily on its future Windows Phone plans at Mobile World Congress. Instead, Nokia will reportedly detail its Android "Normandy" phone, which is expected to be named "Nokia X" once it starts shipping. With a lack of Google Play Store access on Nokia’s Android phone, the company may be forced to focus on any apps it has managed to successfully port to its forked version of Android.

Previous leaks have revealed that Nokia’s Android device includes a Windows Phone-like UI, and can run Android apps like Skype, Twitter, Vine, Facebook, and BBM. Photos of what appears to be a near-final unit of the "Normandy" Android phone have also appeared, showing a handset that looks similar to Nokia’s low-end Windows Phone devices. While Microsoft continues to target low-cost with Windows Phone, Nokia’s Android phone will also focus on this market with low-end specifications like just 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. Google Developed Prototype Of Smart Contact Lens That Measure Glucose Levels In Tears

Google has said it is testing a “smart contact lens” that can help measure glucose levels in tears.

Reported in BBC Google uses a “tiny” wireless chip and a “miniaturized” glucose sensor embedded between two layers of lens material.

The firm said it is also working on integrating tiny LED lights that could light up to indicate that glucose levels have crossed certain thresholds.

But it added that “a lot more work” needed to be done to get the technology ready for everyday use.

“It’s still early days for this technology, but we’ve completed multiple clinical research studies which are helping to refine our prototype,” the firm said in a blogpost.

“We hope this could someday lead to a new way for people with diabetes to manage their disease.”

Its full name is the Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd, but it trades by the name of Foxconn. The electronics manufacturing company is based in Tucheng in New Taipei in Taiwan. It is considered to be the largest maker of electronic components in the world. It is involved in the production of such products as Apple’s iPad, iPod and iPhone, as well as Amazon’s Kindle, Sony’s PlayStation 3, Nintendo’s Wii U, and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

5. IBM, United States – $106.91 billion

The International Business Machines Corporation is based in Armonk in New York. It produces and markets computer hardware and software. It also offers consulting, hosting and infrastructure services in fields ranging from nanotechnology and mainframe computers. It has the record for most patents by a company, which it has held for 19 straight years. The company is also credited for inventing the ATM, the floppy disk, the hard disk drive, the magnetic stripe, the Universal Product Code and the SABRE airline reservation system.

6. Panasonic, Japan – $99.65 billion

The company was formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. It is based in Osaka in Japan. Konosuke Matsushita founded the company in 1918, and it originally sold only duplex lamp sockets. It has since grown to become the fifth largest manufacturer of televisions in the world and one of the 20 largest vendors of semiconductors in the world. It changed its name to Panasonic Corporation in 2008 to align it with its global brand name.

Toshiba is a Japanese engineering and electronics company based in Tokyo in Japan. It manufactures and markets electrical products for information and communications equipment and systems, internet-based solutions, power systems, household appliances, electronic components and industrial infrastructure systems. It is one of the largest vendors of semiconductors and personal computers in the world.

8. Microsoft, United States – $73.72 billion

It is considered to be one of the most valuable companies in the world. It is also the largest software maker in the world based on revenues. The company was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen, and has its headquarters in Redmond in Washington State. It dominated the personal computer operating system market from the mid 80s to the 2000s, even though there were frequent complaints on the system being buggy and vulnerable. It also held a practical stranglehold on the productivity suite market with its Microsoft Office brand of documents, spreadsheets and presentations. It has since diversified, and it now owns Skype Technologies. It also has a strong foothold in the video game market through its Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles.

Sony is a multinational corporation based in Tokyo in Japan. It has interests in various tech sectors, like electronics, games, entertainment and financial services. It is the third largest manufacturer of televisions in the world and is one of the 20 largest vendors of semiconductors in the world. Consumers may also be familiar with Sony because of the Ericsson brand of mobile phones, as well as the video game consoles of PlayStation and PSP.
